SA Connect

Connect with SA Connect, the first tool of its kind. SA Connect, a digital community infrastructure platform, is an online interactive tool that makes key infrastructure data readily available for online users. By using the query tool with SA Connect’s data layers, everyday users are able to perform their own preliminary location analysis, taking the process from a few weeks to a few minutes. SA Connect was created for a wide variety of users, including businesses, industrial, manufacturing, and policy makers (to name a few). Transportation Resources

For many years, San Antonio’s central location in the U.S. and North America have made it a vital crossroads for both commerce and culture. That’s why Spanish missions, 19th-century cattle trails, railroads and early aviation figure so prominently in our city’s history. The importance of modes of transportation to business has only grown with the transition into the modern age, and San Antonio’s facilities and services have more than kept up with the demand.

AIR

The San Antonio Airport System is operated by the City of San Antonio’s Aviation Department and is comprised of the San Antonio International Airport and Stinson Municipal Airport, which is the primary reliever of general aviation traffic in San Antonio. The Aviation Department employs nearly 500 people to support the 24-hour operation of both airports. Airport operations and improvements are paid for by user fees, bond proceeds, and money from the Aviation Trust Fund, which is disbursed by the Federal Aviation Administration.

San Antonio International Airport (SAT)

SAT covers over 2,600 acres and is the primary commercial service airport serving the air transportation needs of the people and businesses in and around the San Antonio metropolitan area and plays an essential role in the economic growth of the region. The SAT is located in northern San Antonio, approximately eight miles or 15 minutes from the downtown area. Loop 410 and U.S. 281 are the two highways providing access to the main entry points.

Federal Inspection Station

A Federal Inspection Station is located in Terminal A, which processes non-stop flight arrivals from international destinations. The station supports operations of the U.S. Dept. of Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as the U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

Ground Transportation

SAT passengers have a variety of ground transportation to choose from, including nine rental car companies, hotel shuttles and a downtown shuttle, city buses, charter buses, taxis, and limos. For more information about SAT, visit www.sanantonio.gov/aviation.

Future Plans

In 2009, City leadership initiated the San Antonio International Airport Vision 2050 Master Plan. The Master Plan examines how the Airport can serve as an engine for economic growth, integrate multiple modes of transportation, and protect the region’s natural, historical and cultural resources.

A phasing program was developed as a guide for future development. Three phases were designed to meet the estimated short term (2010 to 2015), intermediate term (2015 to 2020) and long term (2020 through 2030). For more information regarding the SAT Vision 2050, click here.

Stinson Municipal Airport

Built in 1915,Stinson Municipal Airport is the second oldest general aviation airport in continuous operation in the United States. As the primary reliever for general aviation traffic in San Antonio, Stinson is extremely appealing to operators of light aircraft, individuals, and private aviation companies. It is conveniently located only six miles south of downtown San Antonio.

Stinson Airport is the perfect designation for general aviation and the corporate traveler. Convenient access to all of San Antonio’s major highways (Interstate Highway Loop 410, Interstate Highway 37, Interstate Highway 35, and Interstate Highway 10) puts the majority of industrial and business centers within minutes of the airport. Still Growing Strong

Ninety years after its creation, Stinson Municipal Airport has two flight schools, an air cargo operator, an aviation museum and three fixed-based operators. Stinson now handles more than 150,000 aircraft operations annually. It has recently seen a 110% increase in the number of aircraft based at the airport and a 100% occupancy rate has prompted plans for even more expansion in the near future. Thanks to the Surface Transportation Board approval of the Union Pacific / Southern Pacific (UP / SP) merger, San Antonio has the ability to offer competitive rail services to all parts of the U.S., various border crossing points into Mexico, and access to deep water ports. PORT SAN ANTONIO

Port San Antonio is a master-planned, 1,900-acre aero-space, industrial complex and international logistics platform, centrally located in San Antonio. Created from the former Kelly Air Force Base, Port San Antonio is approximately equidistant from the east and west coasts of the United States and at the center of the NAFTA Corridor between Mexico and Canada. The entire development enjoys designation as a Foreign Trade Zone.

Transportation offerings include an airport with an 11,500-foot runway, accessibility by two railroads, Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe, and three interstate highways, IH-35, IH-10 and IH-37, which reside at the Port’s front door. Markets of more than 90 million people are within a two-day drive of Port San Antonio. Five major seaports are accessible within a three-day drive: the Ports of Houston, Corpus Christi, Manzanillo, Lazaro Cardenas and Veracruz.

Highway System

The San Antonio District plans, designs, builds, operates and maintains the state transportation system in the following counties: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, Uvalde and Wilson.

Ground Transportation

Bus Service

VIA  proudly operates one of the best transit systems in the country. For more than 30 years, VIA has worked to meet the transportation needs of San Antonio. VIA’s fleet consists of 450 buses, comprised of 217 North American Bus Industries diesel buses, four NABI compressed natural gas buses, 176 New Flyer diesel buses, 30 New Flyer diesel-electric hybrid buses, 3 Proterra electric buses, and 14 Optima streetcars. VIA buses operate seven days a week from 4 a.m. to 1 a.m. There are 7,080 bus stops along 91 bus lines, which are divided into five service categories: frequent, metro, express, skip, and downtown circulator.

 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

VIA recently brought Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to the San Antonio area with the VIA Primo route. BRT uses rubber-tire, high capacity vehicles, improved fare collection systems, and controlled traffic signals to move riders more efficiently. Boarding takes place at stations rather than bus stops. In the end, riders using this premier transit service will get to their destinations faster.

The Primo that launched in 2012 travels primarily along Fredericksburg Road and Medical Drive connecting the University of Texas at San Antonio 1604 campus and Leon Valley to the South Texas Medical Center and downtown San Antonio. This line changed the face of the Fredericksburg Road corridor by offering opportunities for transit-oriented development.

Bike & Ride

All VIA buses are equipped with bike racks capable of carrying two bikes at a time, so riders and their bikes can go anywhere VIA goes.
