San Antonio Water System provides water and wastewater services to more than 1.6 million consumers in the San Antonio region. SAWS is the national leader in water innovation with the largest direct recycled system in the country, the largest groundwater based Aquifer Storage & Recovery facility in the nation and was the first in the U.S. in converting methane gas to energy. With a diverse portfolio of water, SAWS recently opened the Brackish Desalination Plant at H2Oaks Center with the capacity to produce 12 million gallons of drinking water daily. The center also functions as an educational facility, featuring a tour layout for educational opportunities and an onsite research facility available for universities. Additionally, SAWS is working on the 142-mile Vista Ridge Pipeline project; the newest water resource to help diversify the city’s water supply. This game-changing project will increase the city’s water supply by an estimated 20% and serve as added protection for the Edwards Aquifer during drought conditions. This dedication to diversity and commitment to strategic water planning ensures San Antonio will have plentiful water for generations to come.
