San Antonio’s Strength Lies within our Region
by Jenna Saucedo-Herrera

San Antonio is experiencing significant growth. You can see it in our skyline, in improvements to our transportation network, and with corporate employers like Toyota considering a $400M investment in its south side facility. Our community is readying itself for our future growth because we are on track to add 1 million new residents in the next 20 years and to become the 6th most populated city in a few short years. If we are to truly understand what it looks like to be prepared for future growth, we need to look beyond our city limits. Our strength lies within our region.

At SAEDF, it’s our mission to ensure San Antonio reaches its economic growth potential. It’s what our community and residents deserve. As we continue to grow, surrounding communities like Schertz, New Braunfels, and Cibolo are growing with us and provide their own unique, marketable assets. Just last week, the U.S. Census Bureau released data that revealed San Antonio and New Braunfels as two of the fastest growing cities in the country.

Economic development today is simultaneously local and global. As we continue to elevate San Antonio’s profile around the world, our regional assets amplify our story and impact.

As we enter into the summer months, I’m looking ahead less to vacation and more to getting to work for our region. SAEDF will begin its stakeholder engagement and planning process to develop a cohesive regional economic development strategy and associated implementation plan. This process will help us understand our region’s strengths, areas of improvement, and opportunities to take greater San Antonio to the next level. Our current strategic plan, Forefront SA, is a plan to grow San Antonio proper. We’re now ready to fully assess and leverage our regional assets, along with our partnering economic development allies.

San Antonio can become a top tier city, and the next five years of growth are critical to determining if we as a community will rise to the challenge. Convening our stakeholders throughout the region, industry leaders, developers, small business owners, young professionals, education partners and many in between, we will gain a better understanding of our community today and align towards a unified goal to realize our potential.

SAEDF is uniquely positioned to bring these stakeholders together and market our region as the premier destination for business investment and career growth globally. We are committed to this work, propelling San Antonio to its economically healthy and prosperous future.
