Sino Swearingen will invest $20 million in a 200,000 square foot facility next to its existing location at the San Antonio International Airport. The new facility will serve as the manufacturing site for its planned construction of 100 SJ30-2 jets.
The company is expected to spend $50 million on parts and inventory to build the SJ30-2.
The announcement was made in San Antonio Thursday, June 29 with Governor Rick Perry announcing that the jet-maker will bring 850 new jobs with an average annual salary of $50,000.
The announcement is a coup for San Antonio's aerospace industry which currently has a $3.3 billion economic impact on the San Antonio economy, with $1.41 billion of that in manufacturing specifically.
Sino has been in San Antonio for 20 years, but the Alamo City was in competition with Pennsylvania and West Virginia. According to the company's Web site, Sino currently employs more than 400 people.
According to a June 30, 2006 San Antonio Express-News article by Sean Wood, "The City Council on Thursday unanimously approved a package of incentives for the company, including 100 percent abatement of taxes for 10 years on improvements to the company's facility. The company will also get a 10-year 65 percent tax abatement on annual inventory and a 40 percent break on a 36-acre ground lease. The county is offering 100 percent abatement on property taxes and the state added $2.5 million from its enterprise fund. Still, the city wrote into its agreement that Sino will have to pay back all abated taxes if it should cease operating in the next 16 years."
