There are several programs available to assist companies with appropriate training for their workforce. These programs exist for the benefit of businesses that are new to San Antonio, start-up companies, as well as existing industry. Workforce Investment ActThe Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) reformed federal employment, training, adult education, and vocational rehabilitation programs by creating an integrated "one-stop" system of workforce investment and education services for adults, dislocated workers, and youth. The Texas workforce system comprises 28 local workforce development areas. Each workforce area utilizes a network of over 280 Workforce Solutions offices and satellite offices statewide to provide services to employers and job seekers. Skills Development FundThe Skills Development Fund is Texas' premier job-training program providing training dollars for Texas businesses and workers. Administered by the Texas Workforce Commission, success is achieved through collaboration among businesses, public Community and Technical colleges, Local Workforce Development Boards and economic development partners. Workforce Solutions AlamoThe Workforce Solutions Alamo Board serves as the governing board for the regional workforce system, a network of service providers and contractors that brings people and jobs together. The mission of Workforce Solutions Alamo is to build a premier workforce in America by providing employers and residents with the opportunities, resources and services to develop and gain a competitive edge in the global economy. Workforce Solutions Alamo serves an area including Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina and Wilson counties. Alamo CollegesThe five Alamo Colleges represent a necessary ingredient in San Antonio's strategic plan to accelerate the creation and expansion of high-skill, high-wage jobs. The mission of the Economic & Workforce Development division of Alamo Colleges is to respond to employer workforce development needs through training and education in support of economic development through the five colleges and the Advanced Technology Center of the Alamo Colleges.
